When I first got the idea to focus a website based on religious freedom, I turned to my brother who at the time was taking some college courses on web design and had more knowledge about building a website than I did. He has a website called www.boisestatefootballnews.com, for anyone who likes Boise State Football. I used his template that he had developed and added some of my own graphics that I found on Flickr.
I made sure I picked the ones that allowed me to use them on my site. I thought they were very attractive and it showed the founding fathers signing the constitution. When I chose a name I wanted one for the domain I ran into the problem of being a newcomer and most of the good names were taken.
I chose the name religious freedom and America as the domain, however I later found out that this domain name was searched for very little and didn't provide much organic search traffic for my site. Since that time I have researched some more keywords and have settled on www.freereligion.net. .Net is not the ideal domain name .com is more common and easier to remember, but free religion as a keyword gets searched about 200,000 times per month and religious freedom and America is searched for about 100 times per month.
However this creates another challenge. With the religious freedom and America I was able to quickly rise to page one on Google's organic search listing, but that didn't do to much for me because no few people were searching for that exact description. I understand that there is a lot more to showing up in organic search than just the domain name matching certain keywords, but it helps and every little bit of help I can get the better. Free Religion on the other hand receives many searches per month, but it also has millions of result pages too, which makes it much harder to show up when someone types in those keywords.
Even with the obstacles in mind I want to spread the message and help others be aware of what is happening in America. I feel that it is worth effort to try and let people understand the importance of freedom of religion and how it promotes freedom in other aspects of our lives. So whether or not someone is religious and goes to church does not matter. Freedom of religion came to the world in America long before other freedoms were granted.
